The bedroom should be a personal haven, a haven that expresses your favorite colors, feelings and collections. Learn the basic rules to keep in mind when decorating your bedroom.
Choose a subtle color
Instead of bold primary colors, choose soothing shades and a calm palette of monochromatic tones. Remember the theory of color: delicate shades of blue, lavender or green are considered calm and serene. Rich shades of precious stones help to create a mood of comfort and convenience. These may include toasted brown, deep garnet or topaz. Use the peaceful versions of your favorite colors in the bedroom. “This may mean choosing purple instead of eggplant or pumpkin instead of mandarin.
Don’t Overlook the Ceiling
The ceiling is the fifth wall in the room. When you lie in bed, do you see a soft, empty surface? Add a subtle pattern or soft color. Paint the ceiling in a slightly lighter version of the color of the walls. This will help to visually lower the ceiling and give the space a feeling of comfort and intimacy.
Other solutions may be a stencil or wallpaper on the ceiling, the addition of architectural elements in the form of beams or moldings or the use of decorative paint processing. For unsurpassed luxury, bedroom ceilings with silver leaves, a four-poster bed or a tent with a bandage on the ceiling can envelop you with feeling and warmth, adding texture, design and color to the ceiling. Add a molded medallion and a chandelier of crystal or delicate shades that give color, pattern and texture to the “fifth wall” above you.
Keep the bedroom simple
The bedroom should look cozy and simple, sophisticated and elegant, no matter what style of decoration you choose. For ease of movement, leave at least three feet between the bed and side walls or large pieces of furniture and at least two feet between the bed and low furniture such as tables and dressers. If you need to go around the bed to go from the closet to the bathroom, think about how you can move the bed.
Decorate your bedroom with just what you need. A bed, a bedside table or two, a chest of drawers and a chair are what you need. Everything else is a mess. If you have space, put a chest of drawers in the closet.
Accessories should be kept to a minimum. Choose a beautiful work of art, take a few family photos, add flowers and candles and leave it alone.
Choose the right size furniture
When you are ready to buy bedroom furniture, start with a floor plan and a measured pattern of space. The furniture must fit the room in which it lives, and this is especially true for bedroom furniture. Do not choose a heavy, large bed and a chest of drawers for a small bedroom. If the ceiling is high, a high headboard will help to significantly reduce its size.
If your bedroom is large, choose furniture that suits her. Add a chair and ottoman or place a piece of furniture at the end of the bed. Too small furniture and accessories will look lost in a large room.
Have plenty of storage
To add to the serene feeling of the bedroom, keep things out of sight. The room will seem more calm and roomy.
Choose a roomy nightstand with drawers or doors behind which you can hide books, lotion and reading glasses within reach, but out of sight. For more storage, choose a baseboard or a small chest of drawers.
Use a chest or bench at the foot of the bed to store extra sheets, blankets, and pillows.
For easily accessible books and accessories, use a headboard with built-in shelves or sliding panels.
A specially designed organization system can maximize the use of cabinet space.
Place shallow boxes under the bed, hiding them in a beautiful skirt.
Include a private Nook
Make yourself a special gift with a quiet place to sit and read. Create a cozy reading or relaxing area with a comfortable chair and footrest at the end of your bed or in the corner.
If you have a seat, build a window sill under the bedroom window. Enjoy the view and natural light.
Indulge in Luxurious Linens
Equip your bedroom with beautiful and luxurious fabrics. There is nothing that adds comfort to the bedroom, like beautiful linens. Do not buy sheets that contain less than 100 percent cotton or flax with a large number of 350 threads or more. For sheets that feel as if they came from a 5-star hotel, send them to a dry-cleaner for professional washing and spinning, which is inexpensive but creates a smooth smoothness worthy of a Ritz.
Add other sensual fabrics through the bedroom using soft mohair or cashmere on the armrest of the reading chair, cover the walls with silk or textured wall coverings, hang silk draperies or silk canopy beds or add plush floor coverings.
Cover the windows
A beautifully decorated window will help create a window frame and a view and provide other ways to add color, pattern, texture and softness to the bedroom. If you like soft transparent curtains that filter light, combine opaque roller blinds that can be lowered to keep privacy at night and block the morning light.
For all draperies, turn on opaque blinds or drapery lining to keep the sun out when you want to sleep late.
Include Several Lighting Options
In the bedroom, it is good to “put” lighting on the whole room. Ambient lighting illuminates the entire room, small lamps can focus light for reading and other activities, and accent lighting helps wash the walls in soft light.
To focus light for reading where you need it, use a bedside lamp with a movable bracket. Each light should be regulated with a dimmer. Set a separate switch for each light source so that you can select and illuminate only the area you want.
Let Your Bedroom Be a Real Getaway
Try to discipline yourself so that your cell phone, computer, TV, simulator or blackberry does not fall into the bedroom. Create a cherished place to relax and renew. You will enjoy the room for reading, sleeping and romance.
