We checked the release date of Apple AirPower every day, but this is no longer necessary, as Apple officially canceled the project completely.
AirPower, a wireless charging pad that Apple introduced a year and a half ago, first appeared on the iPhone X presentation. It was September 12, 2017, or 563 days ago.
He promised Qi to charge three devices at once wherever you put them on the mat. So you can just drop your iPhone XS Max, AirPods 2019 and Apple Watch 4 on the mat and pull them out without connecting any cables. Easy, right?
Well, over the past 18 months, we have managed without an official update of the status of AirPower and have not received any practical experience with an ambitious man. Nevertheless, we saw rumors that the company had problems with quality control.
Trouble, tease and termination
Reports of overheating problems were a concern, while other companies, such as Belkin and Samsung, announced Qi wireless chargers that can charge two devices at the same time.
The Samsung Duo charger came close to giving us what we wanted from AirPower, but it couldn’t wirelessly charge three devices at the same time — it could only charge two devices at a time, and, most importantly, it doesn’t support charging Apple Watch.
Apple several times teased the existence of its charging pad. He updated the official graphics on his website, accidentally mentioned “AirPower” in the directions of the iPhone XS and, most recently, attached a chart on the AirPods 2019 box. This is the last thing we have heard about AirPower so far.
Apple today told AirPower about its long delay in an e-mail sent to Navalny and other media, and it didn’t have good news for fans.
“After long efforts, we concluded that AirPower would not be able to achieve our high standards, and we canceled the project,” said Dan Riccio, senior vice president of hardware for Apple.
“We apologize to those customers who have been looking forward to this launch. We still believe that the future is wireless, and we are striving to move the wireless experience forward. ”
AirPower was ambitious, but in an era when the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 caused a panic in the world, problems with overheating lead to a deterioration in PR. You can still charge your new iPhone and AirPods wirelessly. It just won’t be through an Apple product … at least for now.
